Photo Effect – Make Your Photo Look Awesome !

This is the final result for this tutorial.

Hello everyone. Today I’m going to share how we can do some photo effects to make your photo look cool and awesome. Following are the steps:

1. Open your image file in Photoshop. I use the image of my favourite female model Rosie Huntington Whiteley

2. Change the image to black and white. Go to Image menu > click Adjustments > choose Black and White > you can play around with the colours to get the look that you want. As for me, I changed Red to 103% and I changed Yellow to 101%
and I get this:

3. OK now, we’re going to put some lights to the image. Follow instructions in the image below:

4. Click Create a new layer and you’ll see a new layer is created above your image in the layer panel.

5. Once you’ve created the new layer, Click and drag the Gradient Tool to you image. Mine is as follows:

6. Double click Layer 1 and you’ll to see Blending Option box. Change the Blend Mode to Screen and Click OK

7. Repeat step 3 to step 6. But this time change the colour to fc05dc (pink). My result is as follows:

8. Repeat step 3 to step 6 again. This time change the colour to fcf905 and change the Blend Mode to Color Burn. I get my result as below:

9. Create a new layer (Layer 4) and press hold CTRL + [ (bracket – I’m not sure what’s the name for this type of bracket ;-P )
Press it three times to make the layer going under the lights layer (layer 3, 2 and 1) but above the background layer (which is your image) Below is the example:

10. Fill Layer 4 with Black. And you’ll get something like this

11. Add Layer Mask to Layer 4

12. Double Click on Layer 4. And you’ll see Blending Options Box will appear. Follow the instruction I wrote in the image below.

13. Now in Click Pattern Overlay (make sure it is check and highlighted to blue) and follow the instructions I wrote on the image below:

14. Drag Fill to 0%

15. And you’ll have your image something like below.

16. Now Click on Add Vector Mask (1) and Mask it away with eraser tool (2). You’ll find your Layer Panel like below.

And your image will look something like this.

17. Now Add a new layer. Fill it with Black using your Paint Bucket.

18. With your Layer 5 highlighted, apply the instructions below:

19. Change with the followings:

19a. You’ll see your image changes. And here is my result.

20. Mask away with eraser tool.

21. OK now that we have the basic of this image. Now we need to set the brush tool to match our needs because we want to make some sparkles. Go to Window > Brushes. This will bring out the brushes settings. Use my settings or experiment with your own.

21a. Create a new layer. You will have Layer 6

21b. Go to menu Window and Select Brushes. Then Click Brush Tool. Follow my instructions on the images below:

Then with your Brush Tool selected, change Foreground Colour to bebab0 (or any other colour you finds it suitable for your image). You can now now Sparkles the brush on to your image. My result is as below.

22. We’re now going to add more shapes on the image. First Add New Layer > Select Brush Tool > Go to Window and Select Brushes > Choose any Shape you like (this is the time for you to experiment it ) > Change Foreground Colour to The colour that matches your image. Mine is a0a068.

Then sparkles it onto your image. You can repeat these Shapes steps with multiple shapes. My result as below:

23. Now Create a new Folder on your Layer Panel (see no.1). You will see a folder with name of Group 1 in your Layer Panel. Double Click on it and change the name to Big Circle. We’re going to make a Selection using the Elliptical Marquee Tool.

Then Add a New Layer under Big Circle folder.

24. Draw a Selection on your image. And then apply the Linear Gradient on the Selection with White Color.

This is my result.

25. Duplicate the Big Circle Layer. Go to menu Layer > Select Duplicate. Then Click CTRL + T ( to select Free Transform) and you can scale by drag the small white box at the corner of the transform. Below is the example. You can repeat duplicating layers if you think it is necessary for your image. Again experiment it.
